Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions about Cesura. (More of a visual person? View our Infographics!)

  • What is Cesura? It is not a concert or support group; rather, Cesura is an opportunity for family caregivers to take a break from their constant duties, and relax and recharge so they can go back to giving the best care possible.
  • Why is this service important to Arizona? Each year approximately 804,000 Arizona caregivers provide $9.4 billion in uncompensated care, based on a rate of $12.60 per hour, counting adults that are 18 or older. If the caregivers of children with developmental disabilities and Kinship Families including grandparents raising their grandchildren were included, that number would be closer to 1 million family caregivers in Arizona. If it weren’t for family caregivers, this cost would be passed along to taxpayers.
  • Who is Cesura for? Wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who have taken on a care giving role for a loved one. Cesura is intended for those who are the primary persons responsible for the day-to-day care of a dependent child or adult.
  • Is Cesura free for family caregivers? A fee is not charged to attend, but donations by attendees are always appreciated.
  • How do people find out about Cesura? We are working with partner organizations who will be advertising the events to their membership.
  • Who can attend? People who act as family caregivers for a loved one who needs constant care.
  • What do guests do when they’re there? Relax in the soothing atmosphere of soft lighting and candles, aromatherapy, as well as gentle flute and guitar music performed live. Guests can snack on comfort food and drinks, and mingle with others who share common experiences. The main goal is to “transport” guests to a place completely opposite of their hectic lives.
  • Can caregivers bring their care recipient? The events currently are for unpaid family caregivers only, but in the future, events may expand to include care recipients as well.
  • What if a caregiver doesn’t have anyone to stay with their care recipient while at the events? We encourage caregivers to contact adult or child day care centers if a temporary caregiver is not readily available. We also encourage caregivers to take advantage of Arizona Caregiver Coalition’s Respite Voucher Program that reimburses for respite services like Cesura’s. http://azcaregiver.org/respite/
  • Why should caregivers attend? Respite provides a family caregiver temporary relief from the constant responsibilities of caring for a dependent child or adult. Respite is often referred to as a gift of time. Respite offers family caregivers the chance reduce stress, restore energy and keep their lives in balance.
  • Where are the events held? Events are currently planned in Phoenix, Mesa, Goodyear and Scottsdale. Other locations will be added.
  • How is Cesura funded? Cesura is an Unincorporated Association and is a sponsored project of the Technical Assistance Partnership of Arizona (TAPAZ). Donations are tax deductible. Tax ID number 86-0975231. The events are funded through grants, corporate sponsorships and donations. To donate, visit http://tapaz.org/cesura
